Binh Thuan Emphasizes Craft Production
By 2009, there were 6,901 rural industrial factories which employed 50,069 workers, accounting for 8.4 percent of the province’s labor resources. Industrial and craft production value in 2009 reached VND4.6 trillion, 27.46 percent of the province’s industrial production. Binh Thuan’s industrial craft production achieved an average growth rate of 17.37 percent from 2005 to 2009.
Over these five years, Binh Thuan industries have spent more than VND2 billion on providing technical education for 4,234 students, holding training courses for 308 students to enhance their management skills, building 11 technical performance models in industrial and craft production, processing agro-forestry and aquatic production, sponsoring 21 projects applying technology advances to production, and giving financial support specifically to one industrial and craft zone capitalized at VND165.9 million.
The province’s industries have also invested money on professional training, professional transferring and professional development courses for nearly 3,000 workers in weaving, hand-made pottery, industrial garment and wooden craft skills, supported projects developing local tourism facilities from local materials, created jobs for local labors and supported new professional introduction projects such as red pottery for export and stone statue casting. In particular, the province’s industry promotion center co-operates with the Vietnam Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology and the Farmer Assistance Center to transfer technology for producing wine from cashews for 46 households. Additionally, the province has assisted 45 enterprises in taking part in provincial and regional trade fairs and print advertising leaflets for some products and organizations such as Phi Long sand-paintings and the Association for Craft Products.
Assessing the province’s industry promotion over the past five years, Nguyen Van Dung, the deputy chairman of Binh Thuan People’s Committee said professional training from industry promotion has made encouraging achievements, supported rural enterprises in stabilizing production, created jobs for farmers, established new production models and applied technological advances. The assistance projects for design renovation and printing leaflets have had very positive effects, providing special characteristics to enterprises, diversifying tourism products and making generally positive contributions to the province’s tourism development.
However, there are some weaknesses the industry promotion center has to face such as poor attendance rates in professional training courses, poor output due to weak marketing strategies and insufficient production models due to a lack of investment.
In the coming time, to strengthen industry promotion, Binh Thuan will continue to implement assistance projects for industrial craft production enterprises. The province will also prioritize strong local products and mobilize all resources to take part in industrial craft production and rural industry promotion.
This year, industry promotion will continue to implement professional training courses for rural laborers, develop industry promotion at the commune level, support rural enterprises in improving management skills and enhancing business strategies, improve competitiveness and ensuring stable development, establish better production models and transfer technological advances to agro-forestry, aquatic and consumer product enterprises, as well as support rural enterprises in participating in trade fairs and registering trade names./.
