Bangladesh to import 250,000 tonnes of rice from Vietnam

Bangladesh will import 900,000 tonnes of rice to increase its rice reserve to 1.2 million tonnes in the fiscal year that will end on June 2011, Bangladesh’s minister of Food & Disaster Management, Abdur Razzaque said on Friday last week.

Previously, this ministry targeted to import 300,000 tonnes of rice for this fiscal year. Abdur Razzaque said that the government will also import more 250,000 tonnes of wheat.

On Sunday, Bangladesh signed an agreement with Vietnamese government to buy 250,000 tonnes of rice and Bangladesh hopes that this quantity of rice will be delivered to the country by the end of February. – Vietstock
