Bangladesh to buy 200,000 tones of Vietnamese rice
Bangladesh will sign a contract to buy 200,000 tones of Vietnamese rice in next week under the negotiation between the two governments for the national food security purpose.
Accordingly, Bangladesh will buy 100,000 tones of Vietnamese parboiled rice priced at $575 per tone, C&F price, and another 100,000 tones of white rice priced at $530 per tone, C&F price.
Although being the world’s fourth biggest rice producer, Bangladesh still has to import a huge volume of rice this year.
Bangladesh also signed contract to import 200,000 tonnes of Thai rice under the first negotiation between the two governments.
Bangladesh is speeding up its plan of rice import this year to stabilise the domestic price. Currently, the rice price in Bangladesh is higher 33 percent against one year ago.
Bangladesh’s inflation on food price is up to 11.9 percent in January, marking the highest level since September 2008. – CafeF
