Ba Ria-Vung Tau urged to become deepwater transit port

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has emphasized the need to turn the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau into a regional deepwater transit port in the next five years.

In his meeting with the provincial authorities on August 9, Mr Dung suggested that the province should take advantage of its seaport to develop high-tech industries and tourist services, and increase added values in agricultural production.

He asked the southern province to cooperate with ministries and relevant agencies to upgrade its port facilities and ensure it is easily accessible and connected to other infrastructure projects.

Mr Dung said the coastal southern province should create major industrial products and improve their hi-tech processing to become competitive in both domestic and international markets.

In the future, he added, Ba Ria-Vung Tau needs to complete its master plan for tourism development.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau has maintained a high economic growth rate since 2006. Its GDP in 2010 is 2.27 times higher than in 2005. – VOV
