Aug 31: Vietnam stocks rise fifth day, liquidity rises
Vietnamese stocks extended gaining string for a fifth day in a row as investors continued to pay premium to equities on hope that the market is recovering.
The benchmark VN Index rose 5.45 points or 1.29% to 424.71. Volume jumped 5.3% to 47.7 million shares worth VND784.33 billion including 7.1 million shares worth VND117.44 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
Hanoi-based traders said margin trading has been more active in these days. Market sentiment was improving on hopes of lower interest rate and easing inflation, now bad news is in sight.
Local gold prices rose back to top VND47 million/tael while banks kept charging fee for dollar buyers, making effective dollar prices close to black market.
Back to the stock market, VN Index opened in the green, regaining 421 resistance point with 1.66 million shares traded. The market went higher as it progressed and VN Index broke up 421 point firmly though it closed off the high.
The market breath today was positive, among 300 listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by 147 -76 and 69 stocks unchanged 8 stocks untraded. As many as 13 stocks fell to the floor while 45 issues hit the ceiling, 5% each side. Among10 market caps, 6 gained, 2 fell and 2 unchanged.
SSI was the most active stock with 3.3 million shares traded, closing up 3.6% to VND20,300. There was solid buying into this share especially from foreigners and their room in the broker is filling up. Today the overseas players bought 1.2 million SSI shares
REE was in the second place with 2.1 million shares traded, closing flat at VND13,000.
STB ranked third with 1.8 million shares traded, closing flat 2.9% to VND13,400.
LCG followed in the list with 1.6 million shares traded, closing flat at VND14,000.
ITA was in the last in the top 5 active list with 1.5 million shares traded, closing up 4% to VND10,300.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX rose 0.63 point or 0.87% to 73.19. Trading volume dropped 1.9% to 66 million shares traded for VND740.5 billion of which 4.5 million shares worth VND44.7 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was positive with 136 gainers, 113 losers and 71 flat issues and 66 untraded. Among top 10 market cap stocks, 5 advanced, 3 fell and 2 unchanged.
VND was the most active stock with 8.8 million shares traded, closing up 3.2% to VND12,900 on average.
KLS was in the second place with 8.7 million shares traded, closing up 1.6% to VND12,700 on average.
