ASEAN Bis 2010: opportunities to bring authorities and businesses closer
“The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ASEAN BIS 2010) will be a meeting place for public and private sectors, government officials, and businesses inside and outside ASEAN. It is also a forum for connecting and promoting industries and businesses in the region,†Mr Nguyen Son, a member of the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation, confirmed at a press conference introducing ASEAN Bis 2010 – an annual event hosted by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit.
Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and President of the 2010 ASEAN – Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), Doan Duy Khuong, said ASEAN has confirmed its role as an effective instrument for cooperation among member states and its growing importance on the international arena. The event, themed “Toward the ASEAN Community: From Vision to Action,” is set to take place from October 26 to 28, 2010 in Hanoi, just ahead of the ASEAN Summit 17.
ASEAN-BIS is considered the most important trade and investment promotion event of the bloc and has significance not only on the national level, but also on a regional and global scale.
According to the organizers, the annual ASEAN-BIS draws 600 to 1,000 enterprises from around the world, mainly from ASEAN and its dialogue partners. This year, in spite of the global financial crisis and economic slowdown, the ASEAN-BIS will still attract many businesses from around the world to learn more about global and regional development trends through direct dialogues between state officials and business leaders.
Also on this occasion, the ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) will be granted to outstanding ASEAN businesses which have contributed to regional economic growth and prosperity.
In 2007, to commemorate ASEAN’s 40th anniversary, ASEAN BAC decided to initiate the ASEAN Business Awards to honour outstanding successful companies with great contributions to ASEAN economic growth and prosperity. ABA aims to promote globally competitive ASEAN businesses, to become icons of success for all ASEAN companies, as well as promising SMEs, to support these businesses to develop into multinational global corporations.
The third ABA is one of main activities of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council in 2010. After qualifying rounds, 24 companies will enter the final round and eight will win the “Most Favoured ASEAN Enterprise,” including large and small companies. The awards will be presented by ASEAN leaders to companies in the categories of Growth, Job Creation, Renovation and Corporate Social Responsibility. In 2010, 110 companies applied for the four categories. Mr Vu Bang, President of the State Securities Commission of Vietnam (SSC), will preside over the award ceremony.
Awardees will be honoured at a Gala Dinner to be held on October 28, 2010 and at the closing ceremony of ASEAN BIS 2010. – VCCI
