Argentina customs officials boost ties
Viet Nam and Argentina will establish all-around co-operation in customs, underscoring the increasing importance of having a bilateral co-operation agreement in the field.
This was underlined in the minutes inked by Deputy Director General of the General Department of Viet Nam Customs Nguyen Van Can and Director General of the Customs Service of Argentina Siomara Ayeran regarding preparations for the signing of the Viet Nam-Argentina customs co-operation agreement.
The meeting took place in Buenos Aires during Deputy Finance Minister Do Hoang Anh Tuan’s three-day working visit that began last Thursday, aimed at stimulating bilateral customs co-operation mechanisms and seeking possibilities for bilateral co-ordination in financial management fields.
Deputy Finance Minister Tuan held a working session with Vice Secretary of State for Economic Co-operation Alejandro Robba during which he underscored the need for the two countries’ customs offices to reach a co-operation agreement, especially for the exchange of information.
He said the agreement would help increase transparency in bilateral trade ties as well as strengthen the legal framework for the two countries’ economic co-operation.
Tuan also proposed joint co-operation in studying possibilities for a double taxation avoidance agreement and collaboration in countering trade fraud to create favourable conditions for the two countries’ business people and their economic ties.
Robba affirmed the importance of trade exchange to each national economy and discussed world economic issues with Tuan.
The two countries have seen two-way trade rise sharply from US$32 million in 2001 to $600 million in 2009. — VNS
