Alstom, partner provide hydropower equipment in Vietnam

China‐based Tianjin Alstom Hydro and Hydro China Zhongnan Engineering Corp will provide electro‐mechanical equipment and technical services to the Huoi Quang hydroelectric power project in Vietnam’s Son La province, Alstom reported.

A contract to this effect was signed in Hanoi on March 30 by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and joint contractors Tianjin Alstom Hydro and Hydrochina Zhongnan Engineering Corporation, reports indicate.

The contract is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD). Alstom’s share in the contract is approximately euro 30 million.

Alstom and its partner will supply and supervise the installation of the hydro plant’s electro‐mechanical equipment, including two 260‐ MW Francis turbines and generators.

EVN is the main investor of the Huoi Quang hydroelectric power plant ‐ the country’s third‐largest underground construction work ‐ in Chieng Lao commune, Muong La district.

The 11.7 trillion dong (US$565.1 million) plant has a design capacity of 520 MW with two turbines and expects to generate roughly 1.9 billion kWh annually.

The first turbine of the plant is expected to generate electricity in 2014, while the second turbine will begin operation in 2015.

In other news, Tianjin Alstom Hydro has delivered the world’s first self‐closing electronic ring gate control system to the Ahai hydropower station in China, Alstom reported. – HydroWorld
