Agro-forestry fisheries product export estimated at $5.6b in Jan-Apr
In April, Vietnam’s export turnover of agro-forestry fisheries products was estimated at $1.6 billion, bringing the total figure in Jan-April to $5.6 billion, up 12.8 percent over a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
During April, export turnover of key agricultural products was estimated at $890 million, seafood products at $350 million and forestry products at $300 million.
Totally in Jan-Apr, export turnover of agricultural products increased 5.3 percent year-on-year, seafood products up 17.4 percent and forestry products up 33.7 percent year-on-year.
The country’s wooden product export turnover reached over $1 billion in Jan-Apr, a year-on-year increase of 35.3 percent and reaching over 33 percent of this year’s plan of $3 billion.
Notably, seafood product export in Jan-April reached $1.2 billion, rising 17.4 percent year-on-year. Of which, tra and basa catfish and frozen shrimp saw a rise of 15.6 percent and 11.7 percent respectively. EU market continued to be Vietnam’s biggest buyer and then Japan and the US,
In April, Vietnam’s rice export reached 700,000 tonnes, earning $385 million, bringing the total figures in Jan-April to 2.14 million tonnes worth $1.18 billion, down 13.8 percent in quantity against previous year but remaining the value y-o-y.
In Jan-Apr, the country’s rubber export turnover reached 173,000 tonnes valued at $445 million, up 23.8 percent in quantity and two-fold increase in value year-on-year. Average export rubber price reached $2,640 per tonne, up 92.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
As for pepper, Vietnam’s export turnover in April was $45 million, bringing the figure in Jan-April to $130 million. Vietnam’s three biggest buyers including the US, Germany and India posted 2-3 fold growth in both quantity and value in comparison with last year.
Conversely, the country’s coffee export in Jan-April reached only 465,000 tonnes, fetching $651 million, down 21.9 percent in value y-o-y.

If the government does not issue methods to curb import spending, Vietnam’s trade gap on agro-forestry and fisheries products would decrease.
