Agriculture industry sets major tasks for 2010
At a meeting that opened on Jan. 15, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development discussed the implementation of major tasks in 2010, including a growth target of 3-3.2 percent.
The ministry announced that this year the country will strive to produce 39 million tonnes of rice to satisfy domestic demand and maintain an annual export of between 5-6 million tonnes.
The agricultural sector will also step up livestock farming, aquaculture, production of high-quality vegetables and fruits to cater for local demand and export.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung urged the ministry to improve food productivity, quality and safety as well as to make full use of internal strength to build up competitiveness.
Efforts should be focused on improving the quality of livestock breeds and establishing farming zones where the latest technological and scientific progress could be applied, he said.
