Abu Dhabi firms scan opportunities in Vietnam
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Economic Development (DED) is taking part in the Foreign trade ministry-sponsored UAE pavilion at the 21st Vietnam International Fair (Vietnam Expo 2011) which concludes in Hanoi today.
Six Abu Dhabi-based companies are participating in the event to offer new services and strengthen trade between Vietnam and global producers in home appliances, kitchenware, furniture, gifts, accessories, home maintenance equipment, home decoration products and sports equipment.
Dr Adeeb Al Afifi, director of Exports Support and Foreign Trade at DED, said that the participation of the UAE companies, being held in coordination with the Foreign Ministry, aims to help Abu Dhabi companies reach out to new markets and benefit from potential opportunities there through first-hand appraisal of the market and by meeting leading international companies.
“DED is keen to promote Abu Dhabi products and services in line with Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision that calls for economic diversification and less dependence on oil as the key source for revenues,” Al Afifi said.
Al Afifi also stressed that Abu Dhabi’s participation sought to highlight the UAE as a gateway for Vietnam to reach the Gulf, the Middle East and African markets.
Leading the way
DED is sponsoring the participation of Abu Dhabi Fertiliser Industries Company, Lewa Company for dates, Al Khazna Fertiliser and Chemical Factory, La Roche, Serco Company, and Al Rumailah Plastic Factory.
“This is DED’s debut at this exhibition and the Vietnam market in general. Therefore, the participating companies, most of which are engaged in agriculture, were chosen based on the demands of this market which heavily relies on the agriculture sector,” Al Afifi explained.
