About 2b KWh to join national grid
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group announced that there will be additional 2 billion KWh to be supplied to national grid by Son La hydropower plant and Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant.
On January 7, 2011, EVN will officially put into operation the first turbine of Son La hydropower plant after over five years of construction. At the same time, the group will also have the first turbine of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant joined the national grid.
The first turbine of Son La hydropower plant with designed capacity of 400MW has already finished idle running and prepared to join the national grid in two years earlier than scheduled. At present, the first turbine of this hydropower plant was in progress of trial operation within the period of 30 days. Up to January 7, 2011, the first turbine of Son La hydropower plant will have produced about 100 million KWh.
Son La hydropower plant has six turbines with total designed capacity of 2,400MW, producing annual electricity output of 10.246 billion KWh. The hydropower was sited in It Ong Commune, Muong La Dist, Son La province.
At the same date, EVN Group will also hold the ceremony to mark the operation of the first turbine of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant for officially joining the national grid. Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant has designed capacity of 190MW, to be located in two communes of Tra Doc and Tra Tan, Bac Tra My Dist, Quang Nam province. The hydropower plant was expected to supply 679.6 million KWh to the national grid.
