$1.5b cashew export target for 2011
In 2010, Vietnam exported about 196,000 tonnes of cashew, earning $1.14 billion, rising 10.8 percent in volume and 34.8 percent in value year-on-year.
In comparison to the target set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country’s cashew export exceeded three targets of processing quantity, export volume and export turnover (from 27 percent to over 52 percent).
In 2011, the country expects to earn a turnover of $1.5 billion from cashew export, increasing about 32 percent in value against 2010′s.
According to Nguyen Duc Thanh, chair of Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas), currently, the country’s cashew area is nearly 390,000 hectares mainly in south-eastern provinces such as Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Nai and highland area.
