Vietnam Telecom Revenues Up 62% at US$8.1B in 2009
Vietnam’s telecommunication industry posted revenues of VND150 trillion (US$8.1 billion) in 2009, an increase of 62% on year, despite global economic crisis, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) said.
Mobile phone services contributed the most to revenues of local telecom companies.

At end-2009, Vietnam had 130.4 million phone subscribers, up 50% from the end of 2008, equal to 152.7 phones per 100 residents. Of the figure, 85% were mobile subscribers.
The number of internet users reaches 24.7 million, making up 28.8% of the country’s population.
At a dialogue with telecom firms Dec. 30, the MoIC’s minister Le Doan Hop said the ministry would complete a market mechanism to limit unhealthy competition among local service providers.
One of the targets for the companies in 2010 is to develop converged services, especially digital content services, Hop noted. (MoIC)
