Work on Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant to start in December 2010
Work on Thai Binh Power Centre project total with a designed capacity of 1,800 MW is slated to start by December. The project to be situated in an area of over 250 hectares would come up My Loc Commune, Thai Thuy Dist, Thai Binh province. This is the largest investment project in the province with total investment capital of over $2.1 billion. The project includes two power plants: Thai Binh 1 thermo power plant (2x300MW) with Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) group as main investor and Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant (2x600MW) with PetroVietnam Power Corp (PV Power) as main investor.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Co has been selected as the main contractor for construction works on infrastructure facilities for this project, in which the corporation takes responsibility for land compensation, ground clearance, traffic road construction, power generators and water-supplying pipelines to serve for construction works on two thermo power plants.
At present, PV Power was completing joint infrastructure facilities in order to kick off Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant in December 2010. It was expected that the first turbine of Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant will be put into commercial operation in 2013 and the second one in 2014, making considerable power contribution to the national grid.
The construction on Thai Binh power centre project was officially started in mid May 2009. However, due to some delay, up to early June 2010, PV Power has already finished compensation and ground clearance for a land area of 265 hectares. The company was conducting ground levelling and construction works on traffic roads to the power centre.
