The two-phase plant will be built at a cost of 1,9 trillion VND in a region with a material forest area of 27,000 ha. Tan Mai group also plans to plant an additional 12,000 ha of forest to ensure material supply for the new mill.

A pulp production chain with a capacity of 130,000 tonnes a year will be installed in the first phase of 2010-2011, while in the second phase, which is set until 2012, a paper making production chain will be added, expected to turn out 20,000 tonnes of printing and writing paper

Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai underlined the significance of the plant in developing the watershed forests to benefit local residents, especially ethnic minority people, whose livelihood depends much on forests.

The Deputy PM also asked the Tan Mai group, the project’s main investor, to pay attention to generating jobs for local people while following environmental protecting laws during the construction.
