VNPT signs a credit contract for Vinasat-2

The Viet Nam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) recently inked a credit-lending contract with State-owned Viet Nam Development Bank (VDB) for the VINASAT 2 project.

The Viet Nam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) recently inked a credit-lending contract with State-owned Viet Nam Development Bank (VDB) for the VINASAT 2 project.

Under the agreement, VNPT will get a VND1.092 trillion (US$56 million) loan from the VDB, equivalent to 20 per cent of the project’s total investment capital.

The Prime Minister approved the project and assigned VNPT as the main investor in December 2009. The group will be responsible for appointing the contractors to provide consulting services, purchase the satellite, offer insurance and launch services.

Vinasat-2 will provide uplink and downlink coverage over Viet Nam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. It will be officially operational in the second quarter of 2012.-VNS
