VN to have renewable energy development strategy
Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải on April 1 stressed the importance of early promulgation of a strategy and Master Planning Scheme for the development of renewal energies by 2030 and a vision towards 2050.
The strategy and scheme will create legal foundation for investors to forge investment in renewal energy projects, particularly wind power ones, said the Deputy PM.
He also asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to collect opinions from related ministries and agencies for the draft trategy and master planning scheme before submitting these documents to the PM for approval.
Mr. Hải also noted the necessity to focus on specific mechanisms on capital mobilization, business environment, project portfolio, human resources and scientific research in order to create most favorable conditions for increasing the renewable energy exploitation in the national sustainable development process.
The latest survey of renewable energy potentials showed that there are over 1,000 promising sites for mini hydroelectric plants with total capacity of around 7,000 MW.
The country also enjoys vast potentials for the development of solar, biomass, geothermal and tidal energy, according to the Electricity of Việt Nam’s recent survey..
As of late 2010, Việt Nam was able to tap around 550 MW of renewable energy that are mainly from mini hydroelectric power plants and biomass.
