Vissan Winning Consumer’s Hearts

In response to the “Buy Vietnamese Goods” campaign launched by the Vietnamese Government and Politburo, Vissan Company has operated its factories at full capacity to ensure the supply for the market. The company spared VND6 billion for promotion and discount programmes.

Response to demand stimulus

During the promotion month from November 1 to 31, 2009, Vissan introduced seven new products whose prices are 20 percent lower than the ordinary rates. Sales during the promotion month are expected to increase 30 percent from previous months.
Mr Bui Duy Duc, General Director of Vissan Company, said: The “Buy Vietnamese” campaign is a major policy of the Vietnamese Government, aiming at kindling patriotism and self-help of Vietnamese people, build consumer culture of Vietnamese people and stimulate production of quality and competitive Vietnamese goods. Participating in this campaign, enterprises affirmed their pioneer and leadership in weathering difficulties and challenges to be the winners in competition and integration.
At the start of the year, with the forecast of difficulties in 2009, the leadership of Vissan advocates sent goods to rural areas. Vissan joined “selling in the countryside” programme where the company did not aim at sales but wanted to serve consumers in promote regions who should know more about high quality, prestigious, safe and hygienic foodstuffs with reasonable prices. With more than 70 percent of the population, the potential of the rural market is actually huge. Nonetheless, Vietnamese producers of high quality goods totally ignore this market.
Amid the economic slump, workers in industrial parks and export processing zones are encountering more hardships. To support workers, Vissan will continue cutting product prices.
During the promotion month, apart from discounting 10 percent on whole-sale prices, Vissan also applies the “golden hours” with 30 percent discount from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day. Unlike other companies, Vissan opens the “golden hours” when there are the most customers.
Vissan will make its presence nationwide during the promotion month in addition to the key market of Ho Chi Minh City. This activity will popularise the Vissan trademark in the community. This is the chance for Vissan to exchange and persuade consumers to use its products, invite them to try out its new products, listen to their feedbacks to turn out suitable products for specific locations.
In addition to mobile selling in the countryside, other provinces and cities, Vissan also opened many showrooms to enlarge its distribution networks. In Ho Chi Minh City, Vissan regards the opening of convenient and professional retailing stores as a top measure to deal with the economic crisis and beat its rivals when Vietnam fully opens its retail markets to foreigners.
Employing the demand stimulus policy of the Vietnamese Government and quickly grasping the taste of consumers, the leadership of Vissan has made timely and judicious decisions to drive the company out of the economic crisis. Sales increased and incomes for its 3,000 employees are ensured. More importantly, the trademark of Vissan is brought to a new plane.
Strengthening linkage

Export revenues of the company in the first months of 2009 more than tripled during the same period of 2008. At present, Vissan’s products have been exported to many nations like most recently Venezuela and are approaching Cuba, Poland and the US.
Vissan has obtained the investment certificate for a food processing industrial complex in Hamlet 3, Luong Binh commune, Ben Luc district, Long An province. This project is empowered with new slaughtering and processing technologies that will help the company diversify products and widen its distribution networks, thus, improving its trademark popularity. From now to 2010, Vissan will invest VND700 billion for its complete food processing process from slaughtering to processing, packaging and freezing on an area of over 22 ha. At present, Vissan annually supplies over 25,000 tonnes of meat, 17,000 tonnes of processed foods and 13,000 tonnes of vegetables and fruits. When the new project starts operations in late 2012, the company will be capable of supplying 45,000 tonnes of cattle meat, 10,000 tonnes of fowl meat, 75,000 tonnes of processed foods, and spice products like fish sauce.
Vissan and Mittaphab Development Agriculture Company of Laos signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation under the witness of Laos Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsava. According to the agreement, Vissan will work with the Laotian partner to develop a food supply network in Laos, export high quality processed foods to Laos and sell meat from locally sourced cattle in Laos. Vissan will also support the Laotian partner to develop the slaughtering industry, build abattoirs and processors in Laos and supply high-quality breeding pigs to Laos.
The two sides will set up a food processing joint venture company. Laos will consider supports and import tax exemptions for processed foods imported from Vissan as the Vietnamese Government will exempt import taxes on meat materials of Laotian companies.
