Vietnam’s import for metal surges 13pct in Q1

In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam imported 149,834 tonnes of metals worth $613 million, accounting for 2.65 percent of the country’s total import value of goods, according to the general Department of Vietnam Customs.
This figure increased 4.1 percent in volume and 12.86 percent in value from the same period last year.

Of which, in March alone, Vietnam imported 60,574 tonnes of metals valued at $253.19 million, up 44.6 percent in volume and 49.2 percent in value from February, 2011.

For two consecutive months, Korea has been the leading supplier for metal commodities for Vietnam with a total value of $104.55 million, counting for 17.06 percent of the country’s total import value for metals, rising 39 percent year-on-year.

Regarding import growth in Q1 compared to last Q1, 70 percent of markets saw growth in import value and 30 percent posted decline in import spending, of which, Vietnam’s import for metals from Italy was +178.1 percent, the US (+172.1 percent), Brazil (+117.04 percent) but from Philippines was -60.8 percent and India (-58 percent). – Vietbiz24
