Vietnam’s first deep-water container port officially opens on March 16
Tan Cang-Cai Mep Port, the Vietnam’s first deep-water container port, was officially inaugurated on March 16, 2011 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Vietnam’s deputy prime minister Hoang Trung Hai participated in the opening ceremony.
With the operation of the new container port, the Vietnamese enterprises can directly export their products to the US and Europe, shortening the shipment by 7-10 days, raising the competitiveness for Vietnamese commodities in the international markets.
At the same time, the joint cooperation relations between Tan Cang-Saigon Corp with three large shipment groups in the world of MOL (Japan), Hanjin (South Korea) and Wanhai (Taiwan) will be reinforced and strengthened. It’s the first time that Vietnamese prime minister has approved for setting up new business model between the sea port management firm and the shipment groups.
It was said that Tan Cang-Cai Mep port project was officially started construction in early 2007 with total investment capital of 4.253 trillion dong. The port has designed capacity of 1.8 million TEU per year.
Up to now, Tan Cang-Cai Mep seaport has already received 596 ships with total loading cpacity of 430,000 TEU. The operation of the port also set foundations for the new-born container shipment route from Cambodia, to Mekong Delta Region and the first international seaport in Vietnam.
