Vietnam Tra, Basa Fish Exports +11.2% to US$419.6M in Jan-April
Vietnam notched up US$419.6 million from exporting 195,600 tons of tra and basa fish in the first four months of 2010, posting on-year rises of 11.2% in value and 19% in volume, the Vietnam General Department of Customs said.
In Apr, the country exported 51,000 tons worth US$112.7 million, up 10.5% and 4.2%, respectively, from the same month of 2009.
EU remained as the largest market for Vietnamese tra and basa fish with a total import volume of 71,462 tons, valued at US$165.64 million in the Jan-Apr period, up 9.7% and 2.3%, respectively, against the same period of last year.
Spain took the lead in the bloc in importing the Vietnamese fish, spending US$39.27 million on 17,272 tons during the period. But the imports dropped 2.1% in volume and 11% in value from a year earlier.
Followings were Germany and the Netherlands with import volumes of 12,533 tons, and 8,836 tons worth US$32.3 million and US$25.6 million, respectively.
The U.S. was the second largest market where Vietnam shipped 12,820 tons for US$40.1 million, seeing on-year rises of 11.8% in volume and 9.6% in value.
Following was Mexico which imported 11,197 tons worth US$24.7 million, representing sharp increases of 46.9% and 34.9% from the first four months of last year.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s exports of tra and basa fish to the ASEAN region, the fourth largest market, decreased slightly in volume at 4.9% but sharply in value at 17.2%, the department said. In the Jan-Apr period, Vietnam exported 12,537 tons worth US$23.3 million to ASEAN countries, it added.
