Vietnam to Export Fresh Dragon Fruit to South Korea Next Month
The Plant Protection Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that it will export the first batch of fresh dragon fruit to South Korea next month.
The department had sent technical report on the fruit, including information about growing area code and packing code according to the U.S. standards, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
The department is completing procedures for export of other kinds of fresh fruits to the country.
Earlier, the first batch of Vietnamese dragon fruit, exported by Yasaka Fruit Processing Company, arrived in Japan Nov 14 after a 10-year ban due to fruit fly infestation, according to officials.
The Japanese market requires that fruit fly infestation be treated with a hot steam method, not by irradiation technology by the U.S.
Vietnam has about 14,000 hectares under dragon fruit cultivation with an annual output of 200,000 tons, with central Binh Thuan province being the largest growing area with 10,000 ha.
Vietnamese dragon fruit is exported to Singapore, Thailand, China, the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the U.S. (Youth)
