Vietnam to attend 43rd annual meeting of ADB in Uzbekistan

The Prime Minister has agreed to send a Vietnamese delegation led by Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Nguyen Van Giau, to attend the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of Asian Development Bank (ADB).

43rd annual meeting of ADB

The meeting will be held in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan from April 29 to May 5, 2010.

Over the past years, ADB has operated effectively in Vietnam. In 2009, the bank provided Vietnam with a five-year preferential loan worth US$500 million to help the country overcome the negative impact caused by the global economic downturn.

Most recently, SBV Governor Nguyen Van Giau has signed an agreement with ADB Chief Representative in Vietnam, Ayumi Konishi to grant US$45 million from ADB to help Vietnam implement a project on clean water in the rural environment in the central region.

ADB was established in 1966, and now has 67 members, including 48 members in Asia. The main goal of ADB is to help reduce poverty in the Asia-Pacific region through measures to boost economic growth, promote sustainable development and increase regional integration.
