Vietnam, Thailand promote trade ties

Vietnamese ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang has paid a working visit to Thailand’s northern provinces of Nan and Chiang Rai to boost economic, trade, culture and tourism cooperation between the two Southeast Asian countries.

Working with provincial Governors, and trade, agriculture, tourism officials and relevant agencies as well as representatives from commerce chambers of 10 other Thai provinces, Ambassador Thang informed them of bilateral trade and the potential of cooperation between Vietnamese and Thai provinces.

He also gave introduction on the East-West corridor Economic Cooperation Forum to be held in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri in June, and a plan to organise two conferences on Vietnam’s economic, trade and investment policies, one in August in Chiang Mai province and another in November in Khon Kaen province.

Nan and Chieng Rai’s authorities showed their interest in cultural exchange and economic development cooperation, especially in tourism, with Dien Bien and Phu Tho provinces of Vietnam, considering this an important target in expanding cultural, economic and trade cooperation among Mekong river nations, including those in the East-West corridor.

They said they will soon send delegations to visit Vietnam and attend the East-West corridor Economic Cooperation Forum in Quang Tri province.

The Vietnamese embassy’s delegation also made fact-finding trips to the Nam Ngan border gate between Nan province and Udomsay province of Laos and several other border gates between Thailand and Myanmar, and Laos.
