Vietnam Rubber Export +129% to $445M in Jan-Apr

Vietnam is estimated to have raked in $445 million from shipping 173,000 tons of rubber abroad in the first four months of 2010, a sharp rise of 129.7% in value despite a slight rise of 23.8% in volume, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The prices of rubber rocketed 92.6%, or $1,269/ton to $2,640/ton was attributed to the sharp increase in revenues.

The Vietnam Rubber Association explained that the recovery of the world’s economy has boosted the demand on weak supply of natural rubber.

The MARD forecast that Vietnam will unlikely fulfill its target to export 780,000 tons of rubber for between $1.7 billion and $1.8 billion this year as severe weather has reduced the country output.
