Vietnam ranks 12th in long-term tourism growth

Among 181 countries and territories listed by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Viet nam ranked 47th, 54th and 12th, respectively in terms of the overall tourism development, the sector’s contribution to the national economy, and the long-term (10-year) tourist growth.According to WTTC, in 2010, Vietnam’s tourism directly contributed VND 73,800 billion to the gross national products (GDP), accounting for 3.9 per cent of the nation’s GDP.

The labor force directly working in this field is nearly 1,397 million ones, equal to 3 per cent of the nation’s labor force.

The indirect contribution (through satellite accounts) of the sector is worth of VND 231,000 billion (nearly $12.5 billion, or 12.4 per cent of the GDP) with the indirect workforce of over 4,5 million.

The tourist growth rate in 2010 is expected at 3.4 per cent and will increase to 7.3 per cent in the next 10 years.

The earnings from international visitors and tourist goods is estimated at $4.58 billion, accounting for 6.7 per cent of the total national export in 2010.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism expected that the direct and indirect contribution of the sector will reach $15.9 billion (6 per cent of the GDP) and VND 738,600 billion (13.1per cent of the GDP) in 2020.
