Vietnam, Laos join hands in developing Vung Ang port

A contract to establish the Vietnam-Laos Vung Ang Port Joint Stock Company was signed in Vientiane on April 16, helping the port develop more rapidly and effectively.

This is an important project to facilitate the transit of goods to and from Laos and serve the development of the East-West Economic Corridor.

The Vung Ang Port in the central Vietnamese province of Ha Tinh is a deep-water port with average depth of between 10-15 m, which is capable of receiving 50,000 DWT ships. The port is close to international marine lines and important highways, linking from north-eastern Thailand to the East Sea via central Laos .

The port has two wharfs with a total length of 457.5 m and is equipped with goods handling equipment worth VND 700 billion.

Addressing the signing ceremony between the Ha Tinh Mineral and Trade Corporation, who represents Vietnamese shareholders, and the Lao Vung Ang port development company, Lao Minister of Transport and Public Works Sommat Pholsena expressed belief in the joint stock company’s effectiveness, saying it would help promote the development of the two countries’ comprehensive cooperation.
