Vietnam improves deployment, use of ICT

Vietnam has advanced four spots to 15th position in deployment and use of information and communications technology among a group of 25 resource-driven economies, according to an annual survey by Nokia Siemens Networks.

Connectivity Scorecard is a global ICT index that ranks 50 countries according to their deployment of ICT infrastructure and the extent to which governments, businesses, and consumers use connectivity technologies to enhance social and economic prosperity.

It rates 25 developed innovation-driven economies and 25 less developed resource-driven economies based on two criteria – infrastructure and usage plus skills among businesses and governments and consumers.

Malaysia topped the group of resource-driven economies for the third consecutive year with a score of 7.14, followed by South Africa (6.18), Chile (6.06), and Argentina (5.90).

Vietnam scored 3.42 to place ahead of Sri Lanka (3.18) and China (3.14).

Sweden led the group of innovation-driven economies with a score of 7.95, ahead of the US (7.77), Norway (7.74), Denmark (7.54), and the Netherlands (7.52).

But the scores are not directly comparable between the two groups.

Vietnam also scored higher than IT powerhouse India and emerging business process outsourcing power, the Philippines.

The consumer group scores highest in the Connectivity Scorecard with its frequent and skilled use of ICT services followed by the governments.

The Connectivity Scorecard Index is commissioned by telecommunications equipment supplier Nokia Siemens Networks.
