Vietnam giant shipbuilder Vinashin appoints new CEO

Board of Members of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) has appointed Truong Van Tuyen as new CEO of the conglomerate to replace Nguyen Quoc Anh who assigned as an acting general director a month ago.

Tuyen, 60 years old, earlier acted as Deputy Director of the state-run Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and also Head of Management Board of Dung Quat oil refinery plant project.

Vietnam’s leading shipbuilder has appointed three general directors, including two in the group, since August.

The appointment is part in the Vietnamese government’s plan to restructure as the group fell into debts totaling VND86 trillion by end-June, including a $600-million foreign loan without the government guarantee.

Vietnam’s giant shipbuilder is seeking the government’s approval for $300 million from the sovereign bond fund to help it settle debt with the France-based bank Natixis in move to restructure. – VCCI
