Vietnam firm builds hydropower plant in Laos

Song Da Corporation started construction of Xekaman 1 hydropower plant in Laos Sunday, the second hydropower project that the local company deploys in the neighboring country.

The US$440 million Xekaman 1 hydropower project will have designed capacity of 322MW to produce 1.2 billion kWh a year.

The project construction is to be completed within four years. The power generated from Xekaman 1 plant will be transmitted back to the Electricity of Vietnam for feeding the national grid.

The project is located on the Xekaman River in Laos’ southern province of Attapeu, about 75 kilometers from the Vietnam’s Central Highlands Kon Tum Province.

In 2006, Song Da Corporation had started construction of Xekaman 3 hydropower plant in Laos.

The first oversea hydropower project of the corporation had a designed generating capacity of 250MW and is scheduled to operate its first generator by the end of this year.
