Vietnam discovers over 5,000 ore mines so far

Vietnam has to date found over 5,000 ore mines with 48 kinds of minerals, the Vietnam Geology and Minerals Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said.

Of the sum, 900 mines have been tapping, the department said a meeting on sustainable development of the mineral industry held in Hanoi on Sept 30.

The production value of the industry (excluding crude oil) has increased from 4.8% to 10% of the country’s GDP in recent years.

Vietnam is home to diverse minerals, including coal, titanium, iron ores and bauxite, of which, the country ranks the first worldwide in titanium reserves of 650 million tons and the third in bauxite reserves of 5.4 billion tons.
