A Vietnamese delegation led by Nguyen Ba Toan, a senior official from the Ministry of Finance attended the seventh ASEAN Finance Ministers Investor Seminar (AFMIS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 30.
The seventh AFMIS with the theme “Discovering Tomorrow’s ASEAN” focused on the opportunities that ASEAN markets have to offer the global investing community.
The Vietnamese delegation gave a presentation on Vietnam’s investment environment, explained the problems that concern foreign investors and discussed the Vietnamese Government’s financial and monetary policies as well as its efforts to reduce the budget deficit, maintain economic growth and facilitate foreign investment in the country.
In addition, the exchange rate between the VND dong and the US dollar and measures to stabilise the price of domestic currency was an issue of great concern to many investors.
At the seminar, ASEAN’s financial ministers introduced the socio economic situation and the investment environment in their respective countries and discussed issues related to growth, opportunities to develop the regional economy and ASEAN’s competitiveness in the global economy.
The focus was also on expanding areas of finance, boosting regional connectivity and market links to build an ASEAN economic community by 2015.
Since 2004, the AFMIS has offered opportunities for leading regional and international investors to engage in talks with the ASEAN finance ministers and give a full assessment of the regional economy especially as ASEAN is playing a crucial role in helping the global economy to bounce back. – VOV
