Vietnam’s electricity waste at highest in region
In Vietnam, in order to gain 1% economic growth, the electricity consumption must be nearly 2-2.5 folds while it is only 1-1.5 folds in the neighboring countries.
At the online briefing on the business and production situation in Q1 held in the morning April 4, minister of industry and trade, Vu Huy Hoang, said that although the government has assigned the ministry to issue the guidelines on electricity saving of about 10%, the use of energy, including the electricity using problem, still remains inefficient, wasteful, outdated technology equipments and low efficiency.
According to the statistics, the Vietnam’s electricity consumption for production was reported at the highest wastefulness in the region.
The minister stressed in Vietnam, in order to gain 1% economic growth, the country’s electricity consumption will be up to 2-2.5 times while it is only 1-1.5 folds in the neighboring countries. This showed the efficiency calculation in electricity use is necessary.
According to the statistics from Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), in Q1 2011, the total commercial electricity output reached 21.1 billion kWh, rising 12.16% against the same period last year, of which, domestic electricity consumption saw a rise of 12.23% year on year.
In comparison with the country’s GDP growth in Q1, the electricity consumption growth was 2.25 folds, especially in the industry sector, the commercial power consumption saw a rise of 15.93%, 2.91 time higher GDP of the industry sector. This showed the low efficiency in electricity using.
In a bid to meet the electricity demand in Q1, EVN increased the power purchase to 15.8%, of which, the electricity purchase from China increased 40.8% over the same period last year. – Vietbiz24
