The world’s largest container transporter Maersk Line opened the first direct cargo route from Vietnam to the US on Tuesday.
TP6, the new route, will link SP-PSA International Port in Vung Tau to the Port of Los Angeles, the busiest port in the United States.
Jesper Praestensgaard, managing director of the Asia-Pacific office of US-based Maersk Line, said the route offers Vietnam’s exporters a safe, reliable and economic transport solution.
It will take 21 days for containers to travel along the route.
Goods from Cambodia can also travel the new route via Vung Tau.
Containers from Phnom Penh Port will take 22 days to reach Los Angeles Port, quicker than travelling on any other route in the world.
Maersk Line operates more than 470 container ships whose loads are nearly 116,000 tons. It owns the biggest fleet that has ever landed in Vietnam.
The boats ussually transport from Vietnam such products as footwear, coffee, seafood, electronics, pottery and china, and garment and textile items.
