US businesses keen on investing in Vietnam
The US officials and businesses are interested in Vietnamese government’s investment policies and strategies in calling for investment in the field of energy in the country.
Minister of Industry and Trade, Vu Huy Hoang made the comment to a US-based reporter of Vietnam News Agency after chairing a forum entitled “Investment opportunities in Vietnam – Energy and Finance”, jointly organised by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington on September 15.
Attending the event were almost 60 representatives from a wide range of sectors, from public and research agencies such as the US Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the US – ASEAN Business Council, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, to big names in oil and gas, finance, energy and technology like Shell Oil, Exxon Mobil, Chevron Corporations, Citigroup, HSBC, General Electric, Honeywell and Tangible.
The forum was vivid evidence of the fine relations between Vietnam and US as well as an opportunity to draw stronger US investment in Vietnam’s energy sector, minister Hoang said.
Regarding the cooperation deal signed between PetroVietnam and McKinsey & Company at the event, Hoang said that if successful, the agreement would help PetroVietnam seek financial resources from the US businesses to develop its projects, including projects on oil and gas survey and exploitation, and power generation.
