Tourism experts call for more regional co-operation

Viet Nam, Laos, and Thailand should co-operate closely to develop tourism, delegates told an international conference held in Hue on Tuesday.

Narongsakdi Kuboonya-a Ragsa, director of the Department of Tourism and Sports of Thailand’s Mukdahan Province, said the three countries had to co-operate in at least seven areas to promote tourism.

He listed human resources, marketing and promotion, developing infrastructure and transportation, management, currency exchange system, service quality, and security.

Dam Duy Long, a lecturer at Hue University’s tourism faculty, said central Viet Nam should develop a strategy for the entire region.

Ho Tan Cuong, deputy director of the Quang Nam Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism should be responsible for co-operation with Laos and Thailand.

The conference was organised by the Viet Nam Administration of Tourism and the Thua Thien-Hue Province People’s Committee. — VNS
