Thailand, Vietnam sign MoU on exhibition industry

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Hanoi on June 30 with the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VietTrade) to cooperate in developing the exhibition industry.

Addressing the signing ceremony, TCEB Director, Supawan Teerarat, noted that Thailand and Vietnam are neighbouring countries, which have many things in common. Bilateral economic cooperation is developing rapidly with two-way trade expected to reach US$10 billion this year.

Therefore, she said, “Cooperation is a priority, as it will bring enormous benefit to both sides.”

Ta Hoang Linh, deputy head of VietTrade, also expressed his hope that the MoU will help Thailand and Vietnam integrate deeper into the region through cooperation in the exhibition industry.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand ranks third in trade exchange, behind Malaysia and Singapore. In 2009, Thailand was the 8th largest investor in Vietnam, with 216 projects in operation.

Vietnamese tourists to Thailand increased from 338,300 in 2008 to over 362,000 in 2009. Specifically, visitors taking part in exhibitions made up 13 percent of the total number of visitors.
