Thailand, Lao, Vietnam cooperate to develop tourism

A conference on tourism cooperation between Quang Tri province in Vietnam, Savanakhet province in Laos and Mukdahan province in Thailand was held on June 26 as part of the East-West Economic Corridor Forum in the central province of Quang Tri.

An agreement to promote cooperation was signed in Mukdahan in September last year.

The three provinces have made concentrated efforts to promote tourism including cooperation in promotion, investment in a chain of restaurants and souvenir shops along the East-West Economic Corridor, and offering new tourism programmes. Thanks to this, the number of visitors to the provinces has increased significantly.

However, weaknesses such as unprofessional tour operators and unattractive tour package still remain.

At the conference, the three provinces agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to further improve tourism industries and explore their potential in the countries along the Corridor.
