Thaco starts assembling Hyundai vehicles

Truong Hai Auto Joint Stock Co., or Thaco, on Monday started production and assembling of Hyundai commercial vehicles at the company’s Quang Nam assembly plant.
The ceremony attended by Hyundai Group vice chairman Choi Han Young marked Thaco’s becoming the official local automaker for Hyundai Motor’s commercial vehicles including trucks and buses.

All of Hyundai commercial vehicles in the local market will be assembled at Thaco’s auto factory in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in the central province of Quang Nam. Thaco said the Hyundai vehicles production line at the factory has a capacity of 10,000 units per year.

The company on Monday rolled out the first six locally-assembled Hyundai truck, bus, dump truck and specialized truck models. They include Thaco Hyundai Mighty 2.5T, Thaco Hyundai Mighty 3.5T, Thaco Hyundai HD65 Ben, Thaco Hyundai HD270 Ben and Thaco Hyundai HD370 Ben.

Thaco’s chairman and CEO Tran Ba Duong said that his company would research and assemble new buses and trucks as well as special-use vehicles under the instruction of Hyundai experts.

The company will develop spare parts and components according to Hyundai Motor’s standards. It will also develop more Hyundai showrooms as well as warranty workshops across the country.

This is the second Korean auto brand that Thaco assembled at its factory, after Kia Motors Corporation.

Thaco has forged a strategic partnership with Kia Motors Corporation and become the sole assembler and distributor of Kia passenger cars in Vietnam since 2007.

Relating to Hyundai passenger car segment in Vietnam, Thanh Cong Group’s Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Auto Company is the official distributor of this category in Vietnam.

The company is developing an auto factory at Gian Khau industrial park in the northern province of Ninh Binh. The auto plant will be able to churn out 40,000 units a year. Thanh Cong Group distributes various makes of Hyundai, including Elantra, Getz, i30, Sonata, Tucson, Santa Fe, Veracruz, EQUUS and Genesis. – SGT
