Technical Conferences Discuss ASEAN Cooperation
Technical conferences on regional financial cooperation between ASEAN and ASEAN+3 (ASEAN countries plus Japan, China and the Republic of Korea) were held from February 27 to March 5 in Hanoi to prepare reports for the 14th ASEAN Finance Ministers/Deputy Ministers Meeting and the ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers/Deputy Ministers Meeting to be hosted by the Vietnamese Minister of Finance at the beginning of this coming April in the coastal city of Nha Trang, Vietnam.
The conferences discussed nine questions: (1) reviewing, accessing and approving research on regional financial cooperation programs, trade payment facilitation and risk management supervision, (2) strengthening the economic supervision mechanism for ASEAN and East Asia, (3) reviewing and evaluating the development of workgroups on the Asian Bond Market Initiative (ABMI), which will present a plan to boost the development of the bond market in Asia, (4) reviewing work on the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralization Agreement, (5) reporting the pace of the 22nd Work Committee on Financial Services Liberalization, (6) re-examining the pace of the Work Committee on Capital Account Liberalization, (7) the itinerary for developing the plan on capital market development, (8) re-examining the pace of development of the Infrastructure Assistance Fund and (9) re-examining the pace of the ASEAN and ASEAN+3 workgroups.
