Surveying sample red river tours
The Hanoi Tourism Promotion Information Centre has organised a field trip to explore some places of interest along the Red River like Dam Temple, Dai Lo Temple (both in Thuong Tin district, Hanoi), Ba Hoa Temple (a temple to Saint Chu Dong Tu), and Bat Trang pottery village to develop some sample tours.
The programme is part of the National Tourism Year 2010, Hanoi, and an activity to celebrate the 1,000th founding anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.
Red River tours have been put into service since 1996. Boat remains the main means of transport for these tours to Hanoi, neighbouring Hung Yen and Bac Ninh provinces. Targets are domestic travellers.
However, old tours lack exclusivity to lure more customers. Infrastructure items like boats and wharves are disqualified to serve international tourists. In addition, environmental hygiene and security for tourists need to be taken into account.
To overcome these shortcomings and make Red River tours more attractive, travel companies need to coordinate with other concerned units to upgrade destinations. After infrastructure is upgraded, new tours will become key tourism products of the capital city.
