Southern shipyard to built barge for Australian company
Australian ship builder Strategic Marine has its southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province-based shipyard build a 27-metre work barge.
The barge, being built at Strategic Marine’s largest shipyard in Vietnam, will service the energy and resources sector in Western Australia north-west for Karratha business Offshore Plant Hire.
It will be based in the Port of Dampier and be chartered to marine operations company Bhagwan Marine, servicing the areas around Dampier, Onslow and Barrow Island.
The barge will be used primarily for port upgrades, construction support, mooring maintenance and shallow water dive operations.
The new contract highlighted the shipbuilder’s growing reputation for providing quality vessels at competitive prices, backed-up with through-life maintenance support, said Strategic Marine’s chief marketing officer Terry O’Connor.
“We believe the people who build the product should be responsible for ensuring its efficient and safe lifetime operation through exemplary service and long-term maintenance support,” O’Connor added.
Increasing Strategic Marine’s presence in the north-west region of Western Australia was a key element in the company’s growth strategy for the next five years.
“Our ability to supply Australian shipbuilding expertise out of South East Asia is a critical factor in our success and continued momentum in the Australian energy and resources sector.”
“This momentum will see us providing shipbuilding, ship repair, towage and heavy fabrication services to a number of key players throughout the region,” he said.
