Seminar focuses on IT in financial sector

The 7th Viet Nam Information Communications Technology (ICT) in Finance seminar opened yesterday to examine emerging issues for the public finance sector.

The annual seminar this year focused on ways to develop e-finance during the 2011 – 15 period. Seminar participants discussed the need to reduce administrative procedures in taxation and the customs sectors by up to 50 per cent, a challenge that requires an effective strategic planning.

The event also focused on issues related to information management systems, data management, business intelligence, information security and communications infrastructure.

The development of public and internal e-Finance, which is regarded as the provision of financial services and markets using electronic communication, is seen as more efficient than old paper-based services.

Several IT solutions for the finance sector will be introduced at the seminar, which is expected to help decision makers in making the best choices for their ICT needs.

The ICT seminar runs alongside the Chief Information Officer (CIO) ASEAN Conference and Awards, which gathers 1,000 executives from around the world to discuss a range of business issues.

The CIO Awards, held since 2005 by IDG Viet Nam, the National Steering Committee on ICT, and the ministries of Information and Communications, Home Affairs, and Science and Technology, are to honour outstanding CIOs in the Indochina region.

The three-day event, which will close tomorrow, is co-organised by the International Data Group (IDG Viet Nam) and the Department of Financial Informatics and Statistics, Viet Nam’s Ministry of Finance. The event is the country’s largest annual conference and exhibition on finance. — VNS
