Second expressway project underway

Authorities in HCM City and southern Long An Province have begun to conduct construction surveys on the proposed Tan Son Nhat-Tan An Expressway, the director of Long An Province’s Transport Department, Luu Dinh Khan, has said.

The 60km expressway project, which has won approval from the Government, would run from the intersection between National Highway 1A and Phan Van Hon Street in HCM City’s Tan Binh District to National Highway 62 in Long An Province’s Thu Thua District.

The international-standard expressway will have four lanes in the inner HCM City section and six to eight lanes on sections from the outer HCM City to the expressway end.

With a speed limit of 100 to 120km per hour, the road will help shorten travelling time from HCM City to the southwestern province of Long An to around 30 minutes.

Total investment is estimated at US$1 billion financed by Tan Tao Group (ITA Group) in form of Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT).

The Transport Ministry has asked the investor and related agencies to study the expressway’s starting point so it would connect appropriately with the urban transport system in HCM City and its neighboring provinces.

The expressway route which goes through the city is being studied to ensure effective connections with current and expected projects in HCM City, according to Thai Van Men, general direct of ITA Group.
