Seagoing transport posts 109pct growth during 2006-2010 period

Vietnam Maritime Department yesterday held the meeting in Hanoi to report about the operation situation of Vietnam’s maritime industry after five years of following the Vietnam Maritime Law 2005.

Within the period of 2006-2010, the commodity transportation output increased sharply from 42.6 billion tonnes in 2005 to over 88 billion tonnes in 2010, increasing by 109.4 percent.

In the past few years, Vietnam has successfully built and repaired a variety of large scale ships of over 53,000 dwt, 100,000 dwt and offshore floating terminal of 150,000 dwt.

The statistics showed that in 2010, Vietnam has had 37 seaports with 190 harbours with total offloading capacity of about 300 million tonnes per year. Vietnam also had a crew of 1,636 ships with total loading capacity of over 7.1 million dwt, increasing by 108.8 percent against that of 2005 of over 3.4 million dwt.
