Seafood products honoured in Brussels

Vinh Hoan Corp won “Best Retail Product” for two entries during the annual European Seafood Exposition in Brussels, Belgium.

The title is recognised as the most honourable award at the expo which is also the largest seafood event in the Europe.

On the first day of the expo, Viet Nam’s tra fish was sold at 3.45-3.6 euros (US$5-5.2) per kilo, much higher than the floor price, with some enterprises signing contracts with foreign partners, Viet Nam Association of Seafood Processors and Exporters vice chairman Nguyen Huu Dung said.

During the three-day expo, which ended on Thursday, European Parliament Fisheries Committee vice president Struan Stevenson visited Viet Nam’s booth and expressed his admiration at the rapid development of the country’s fisheries sector.

He said the sector had huge potential and it should further improve the quality of seafood products for export as a move to protect the reputation and trademarks of Vietnamese items in the international market.

Stevenson also said he would visit Viet Nam to inspect aquaculture and report to the European Fisheries Committee.

This was the 14th time Vietnamese businesses have attended the event and Vietnamese seafood was displayed at 50 booths.

A seminar on tra fish farming in Viet Nam was held on the sideline of the event to introduce more information on its products and the country’s fisheries industry. — VNS
