Russian group pushes up construction on copper processing plant

The Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (Vinacomin) has concentrated on developing the copper processing factory in Vietnam, a joint project with Russia-based Geo Pro Mining (GPM) Group.

Phung Manh Dac, Vinacomin’s vice general director stated that the two parties had signed the cooperation contract in September 2010 for carrying out the project. In addition, Vietnamese government has also approved in principle for realising the construction works on this metallurgical factory.

At present, the concerning parties are completing the necessary procedures to apply for the investment licence with the target of officially starting the project in Q1 of 2011.

The new factory with designed capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year will be sited in Quang Ninh province. Vinacomin will contribute 29 percent of the total capital, and GPM of the rest 71 percent. – Dautu
