Posco Power to participate in Mong Duong 2 thermo power plant

AES, the investor of Mong Duong 2 thermo power plant project has lately assigned Posco Power, its partner to work with the Quang Ninh province’s local authorities.

Nguyen Hong Thanh, director of Quang Ninh province Department of Planning and Investment said that according to the information released by AES, in the near future, AES and Posco Power planned to sign the contract to become the strategic partners for carrying out the Mong Duong 2 thermo power plant project. It’s possible that Posco’s contribution will count for 30 percent of the total investment capital in the joint venture.

Mong Duong 2 thermo power plant has designed capacity of 7.5 billion KWh per year. The total investment capital for this project was estimated at $1.5 billion, of which AES contributed 90 percent and Vietnam Coal and Minerals Industry Group of the rest.

The investors at present are preparing necessary procedures so as to kick off the project in Q1 of 2011. – Dautu
