Phu Quoc-Island and Sea city, Centre of High-grade Tourism and Service
Phu Quoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang has become a special economic and administrative centre and luxury eco-tourism and centre. It also aims to be a big regional financial centre.
The prime minister has approved a plan to adjust the construction of Phu Quoc Island by 2030 with the aim to ensure the island’s sustainable development attached to preservation of cultural and historical relics and ensuring social security.
Three urban areas
The development model of the eco-tourism city of Phu Quoc is divided into the main direction of the north and south of An Thoi-Cau Trang and transport axis around Bai Rong-Bai Thom-Rach Tram-Rach Vem. The axis is connected to international seaports of An Thoi, Bai Dat Do and Duong To.
Duong Dong Urban Area will be the centre of Phu Quoc tourism city. This will be an administrative, public service and international financial hub.
The island is forecast to 2 – 3 million visitors annually from now to 2030 and the figure will increase to 5 – 7 million in 2030 with 40-50 per cent to be accounted for by international tourists.
The north will be a preservation area of forests, eco-tourism, handicraft villages and hi-tech agriculture. The south will be for the development of eco-tourism, seaports, international airports, preventive forests and parks. The west will focus on developing eco-tourism areas and traditional handicraft villages. The west will concentrate on agricultural development attached to persevering natural scenery.
In Phu Quoc’s development orientation, besides Duong Dong, the island has An Thoi seaport urban are and Cua An urban area. An Thoi will be an international seaport urban area and a non-customs, trade and tourism centre. Meanwhile, Cua Can will be used for research activities of forest, island tourism and sea preservation.
15 eco-tourism areas
Tourism is among the main development orientations of Phu Quoc Island. Among the locality’s development plans, Phu Quoc will have 15 eco-tourism areas, including Bai Thom, Ganh Dau, Rach Tram, Rach Vem, Bai Dai, Vung Bau, Cua Can and Bai Ong Lang and two general tourism complexes of Bai Vong and Vinh Dam as well as Bai Truong general tourism complex.
Particularly, the island will also house public services, administrative works, luxury hotels and trade centres at Bai Thom and the urban areas of Cua Can, Duong Dong and An Thoi.
Phu Quoc Airport, An Thoi Seaport, Duong Dong Inland Port and the north-south main road around the island will be prioritised projects.
